Enter the London art world with a unique gallery walk
Art x Lunch
Thanks to all those who have already booked! Our meeting point is Graphic Bar, in Golden Square, off Regent Street. For directions click http://g.co/maps/pk7d7
Please be there by 1.50 pm as our walk starts at 2pm sharp.
This art walk will trace three very different modes of practice within the art world, all located in central London. First, we get a rare glimpse of the inner workings of the Royal Academy School, one of the most distinguished art schools in the world. This school has produced some of the most exciting artists of the 20th and 21st century, and Charles Saatchi is a regular attendee of their end of year shows.
We then move to Stephen Friedman Gallery for an exhibition of David Shrigley, who also is currently showing at the Hayward Gallery. As his representative gallery we will be treated to the best of his works. Shrigley is an interesting example of non-traditional fine artist making the transition to an institutional space. This has not been unproblematic, with some critics unsure that his work should be regarded as art rather than illustration.
Finally, walking through Piccadilly area to Frith Street Gallery, a stunning conversion of two Regency houses in Soho, where internationally renowned Raqs Media Collective are showing. The exhibition includes new works which play with words, light and electricity, sign language, chiastic variations, archival traces, counting exercises and insurgent readings of time. Raqs Media Collective are symptomatic of a new mode of artistic production in which groups of artists work together across curation, research and artistic production.
Fox&Squirrel (F&S) also organise private art walks.
